What are Mood Boards?
- A mood board or look book is a collage of items that convey a feeling or idea. These are often used to help bring a group of people together to collaborate on a single creative endeavor. Mood boards can consist of images, words, phrases or object samples that together covey a general idea or feeling.
- In photography mood boards are generally used to illustrate a particular style for a shoot. They can consist of clothing styles, makeup looks, hair styles and poses that interpret the idea for shoot. The most common type of mood board used today is Pinterest but it can also be a collection of saved images the photographer will send to people they are wishing to work with when planning a shoot.

- Sometimes when working with mood boards its misunderstood that the images in the collection are going to be “recreated”. It's better to think of a mood board as inspiration and not something to directly copy/recreate, unless otherwise communicated. They are there to be a guide so everyone involved is on the same page. This will help the final result look and feel more coherent.
