Demolition has begun

October 11, 2017Demolition finished
Over the weekend demolition of the walls and flooring was completed. After removing the carpeting we discovered some old VCT tile underneath. Since we couldn’t verify the installation date we had it tested for asbestos to be sure it was safe to remove. Once the testing came back negative we removed the tile so we could have a smooth hard surface in the studio area. Thanks to some of the guys at Maria’s current day job we were able to get the flooring removed, the cement patched and ground down in the span of a couple of days.
Construction progress
With the removal of the old flooring the major demolition was completed. With walls down and bare cement exposed we were able to move into the building phase of construction. First we patched the cement floors from old walls and the cracks of time. Then we had the patches ground down to make for a level surface for the studio. Once a level floor was achieved we started prepping the cement for the new flooring. We also removed the old industrial style sink from the bathroom and replaced the seal on the toilet.
New Flooring
Now that we had a nicely prepped floor we coated the main studio floors with a first coat of cement paint. We also installed new vinyl flooring in the bathroom and some nice laminate flooring in the makeup and main office areas of the studio. With all of the flooring in place we can now start fixing the walls and apply a fresh coat of paint and build out the main sets. Posts about those steps will be coming over the next week or so.
